My First Hike: Self-Discovery

6/28/24

Hiking for the first time was more than just a physical activity, it was a journey to self-discovery. It felt like I just stepped into a completely different world where everything around me felt calming. Time felt like it slowed down as I followed the trail smelling the crisp air and the sound of my feet stepping on branches and wet mud. At first, I was focused on catching my breath and ignoring the burning feeling in my legs when going uphill, but as I kept moving my thoughts began to creep up on me. Realization hit that there was a sense of freedom, I was able to self reflect and conquer inner thoughts without there being distractions. Reaching higher points and being in awe of the view, I felt like I was discovering something about myself. Hiking isn’t just about the the physical activity, its about reconnecting with a part of myself that I’ve been too scared to explore.
